3.3 Defining The Line Boards
The FXT System accepts several different types of lines. In order to use these various lines, you must
install the correct line board. The following list details all of the currently available line boards.
Loop-Start Line Board
—
The loop-start line board provides system interface for loop start lines. Loop start lines are the most
common CO line type (loop-start lines do not usually offer disconnect supervision).
E1 Line Board (available for international applications)
—
E-1 is a telecommunications system that enables two-way digital communications over two pairs of twisted
wires. The E-1 system provides up to 30 channels of voice and/or data transmisions that form digital pulses
transferred at 2.048 Mbps (million bits per second). Each channel is assigned 64 Kbits of bandwidth with a
total of 32 individual channel timeslots (TS). The first (TS0) and 17th (TS16) timeslots are referred to as
overhead channels and are not available for user traffic.
T1 Line Board (available for domestic U.S.A. applications)
—
The T1 board provides either eight, 16, or 24 channels of voice transmissions over a single, four-wire, cable
using multiplexing techniques.
ISDN–PRI Interface
— The ISDN–PRI interface provides integrated services digital network (ISDN) primary rate interface (PRI) to
the FXT System.
MF-DID/EM Line Board Support
— The multipurpose line board (product code FXEMDD–MF and FXEMDD–DF) for the FXS digital
communications system provides R1 multifrequency ANI over analog DID lines. This 10-port line board
supports the functionality of DID, E-911, and two-wire E&M tie lines. When installers first add the
MF-DID/EM board to a master cleared system, that system defaults its first 10 line ports to this board and
configures the first eight ports as DID lines and the last two ports as E&M tie lines. Installers can change
these assignments through programming to E-911 lines (ports 1–8) and E&M DINIS lines (ports 9 and 10)
if they wish.
