
4.7 Connecting The Serial Data Ports
The CPU board provides two serial data ports. You can add as many as eight additional serial data ports
by adding the communications card onto the auxiliary board. The auxiliary board will accept up to two
communications card. The following chart shows the locations for all of the non-dedicated serial data
ports.

Pin 1 = Request to Send
Pin 2 = Clear to Send
Pin3=ReceiveData
Pin 4 = Transmit Data
Pin 5 = Signal Ground
Pin 6 = Frame Ground
NOTES:
1. Maximum distance between the serial data ports and the
external data equipment is based on the baud rate of the port.
The distance is limited to 50 feet when the port is operated at
19,200 baud and 500 feet when it is operated at speeds up to 9600 baud.
2. Some data devices require the CTS signal for proper operation.
Route CTS to the device as needed.
