3.11 Expanding the FXT Capacity
You can expand the FXT by adding an internal expansion kit and by adding an expansion cabinet. By
adding an expansion cabinet, the total universal slot capacity of the system increases from seven to 29
universal slots.
Preparing the FXT for Expansion
There are two stages to expanding an FXT System: expanding the main cabinet and adding an
expansion cabinet. By adding an expansion kit, you can increase the main cabinet’s capacity to 14
universal slots. By adding an expansion cabinet, you can expand up to 29 universal slots.
When you expand an FXT System, you must first add the following items to the main cabinet:
•
an interface board (replaces the AUX board),
•
a main expansion interface option card (mounted onto the interface board),
•
a CPU card (mounted on a services board),
•
an expansion backplane,
•
a second power supply.
The following chart details the expansion-supporting components.
Expansion-Supporting Components Product Code
CPU Card mounted on a Services Board FXCPU-n, FXSRV-n
Main Interface Option Card mounted on an
Interface Board (this combination replaces
the AUX board)
FXOPT-SCM-1, FXINT-MAUX
Expansion Backplane FXBPX
Adding The Expansion Cabinet
The expansion cabinet includes an expansion cabinet interface board (FXINT-XSRV) with a mounted
expansion interface option card (FXOPT-SCX-1). This arrangement provides an additional 8 slots. To
further increase the port capacity, you can add a modular expansion backplane kit (FXBPX) to the
cabinet and gain an additional 7 slots. (Adding the expansion backplane kit requires that you also add a
second power supply.)
