Programming the Comdial System
GCA39-814 Rev 3, Issue 9/01 Page 2 Printed in the USA
Using VMMI
VMMI Overview
VMMI is a Microsoft Windows-based software program that allows you to program the
Comdial system by entering specific programming choices in dialog boxes.
VMMI is designed as a programming utility for use with Common Code Base (CCB)
systems. CCB systems refer to DXP, DXP Plus, FXT, FXS and FXII systems that share a
common feature set, and hence, common underlying software. The software code is the
same, therefore you can use VMMI to program all the CCB systems.
Prior to CCB software, there was a Man-Machine Interface (MMI) for programming. This
was accomplished with a terminal emulation program, and the programming was text based,
and menu-driven.
VMMI is also menu-driven, but it provides a graphic user interface (GUI) which allows on-
line programming without additional communications software, and allows creation of
databases off-line.
VMMI allows you to archive databases from the system, restore databases to the system, and
translate earlier databases.
Logical board assignments allow you to logically assign the boards before you physically
assign the boards.
VMMI is only available with Common Code Based (CCB) software Rev. 10A and later.
VMMI has drop-down menus like other windows-base software. Use your computer’s mouse
to move the cursor to the desired location, and either click or double-click the left mouse
button to select programming options.
Obtaining VMMI Software
You can obtain VMMI software free of charge from the Dealer Resource Center. This center
is available online through the Comdial web site at www.comdial.com. For specific
information on accessing the Dealer Resource Center and VMMI software, refer to the topic
Downloading and Installing Software Files from the Dealer Resource Center later in this
section.
